If movies have taught us anything in the last 10 years, it’s that we all love an origin story. Karla Blum is just such an artist. Shiny and new, her eyes bright with possibility, she embarks upon her sonic journey with steely determination. She has an edge, though. Being born and raised in Berlin means she has a front seat to the greatest techno show on Earth; a city with an embarrassment of clubbing riches.Take her first gig, for instance, at the world-famous Ritter Butzke, a former factory in the Kreuzberg district which began life as an illegal club in 2007, and quickly gained popularity, becoming official two years later. “I was nervous,” she says, “But the crowd’s response was amazing and helped me forget my nerves.” And it’s that community spirit that continues to inspire her: “On the streets, everything seems so hectic, unkind and distanced, but being in a club with friends, or even strangers, creates a community where people who don’t even know each other are nice, happy, and can forget their troubles for at least a couple of hours.”Deeply committed to developing her sound, Karla has an ever-filling diary of gigs around the country, including the Pavoia Festival, Tanzhaus West, and a highly emotional return to Ritter Butzke, which introducedher to new environments and honed her skills in the most honest and visceral way.The last two years have seen Karla’s career expand beyond the Berlin techno scene, marking a significant evolution in her artistic journey.
In early 2023, she released her EP „Never be Same“ on Oliver Huntemanns‘ Senso Sounds Label, which received critical acclaim for its dark, pulsating beats and atmospheric depth. The EP was praised in several electronic music publications for its seamless blend of Berlin’s techno energy with more melodic, experimental elements.Further, she started her own Label ‚BLUM BERLIN‘ in early 2024.Her performances have also reached new heights, with appearances at internationally renowned venues such as Blitz Munich,Watergate Berlin and BootshausCologne, as well as her first trans-atlanticshow in Montreal. A standout moment was her set at the 2024 Rave the Planet Parade Berlin with more than 300000 visitors, where her sound captivated a diverse crowd and solidified her status as a rising star inthe techno world.
In 2024, Karla took her passion for community a step further by launching a weeklyYoutube residencycalled BLUM FM, where she plays the latest trends and her favourite club tunes in an hourly mix.
